Condition: Excellent. Lovely Cocus. Can not spot a crack in this flute. One deeper scratch on the headjoint (pictured last) that does not affect performance/playing.

"This instrument is a real trifecta: it is gorgeous, historically significant, and an awesome player!
This flute is an actual Siccama made by Abel Siccama and John Hudson at their London workshop, most likely in the early 1850s. This early serial number instrument plays beautifully at A440. The goal of Siccama's innovative flute design was to cure the tuning defects inherent in 19th century simple system flutes and this flute largely does so. It requires minimal "lipping" to play in tune when compared to other antiques.
The defining characteristic of a Siccama flute is its keywork - and Hudson's distinctive keys are exemplary. All ten keys fall naturally under the fingers and are lightly but securely sprung. The foot keys work extremely well for an antique, especially with an occasional drop of oil on the pewter plugs to perfect the seal. The "Siccama keys" in particular are highly ergonomic and very lightly sprung with action fast enough for any jig or reel.
Many Irish trad players are hesitant about Siccama flutes because they are concerned about the difference between the "Siccama keys" and the open holes of a typical flute. I've played exclusively Irish & Scottish trad music on this flute as my main instrument for years and it is brilliant. It only took a couple of hours to get used to the keys and the slight change to the timing of ornaments was natural and easy. The only ability you "lose" is the ability to slide from D or G (to E and A respectively) and I frankly did not miss it at all; you can do almost the same thing with a grace note. What you get in exchange is more than worth it: power, tone, projection, good tuning, sensitivity, flexibility, and comfort all in one beautiful, historic and rare wooden flute.
The flute comes in its original case, to which hinges and latches were added sometime recently. I'm going to miss this flute - the only reason I am letting go of it is that it deserves to be played regularly."
