Original Pratten flutes are rare, especially one in such well-preserved condition with its original case. This example has no cracks in the headjoint or barrel section, with only a fine hairline crack in the foot tenon that has been sealed. The flute plays well at A440 with the slide extended about 3/4". It has a strong bottom D and very good intonation. Tuned to A440, the A requires slight lipping down, and the C# benefits from either lipping up or venting with the C key, though these adjustments are subtle unless inspected closely with a tuner. With the slide extended about 1/4", it plays at approximately A452, offering a wide tuning range.
