This is a very rare whistle. It's a pity Benedict isn't making whistles anymore, as every one we've had in our shop has been a beautiful player and a real looker. This is the first low D of his we've seen. It plays like an Overton/Goldie made of wood, with a tight, compressed sound, a strong and edgy bottom D, and a rich, resonant "cosmic drainpipe" voice. It has a bit of backpressure and requires a push to voice the upper octave, making it ideal for players who like to lean into their playing. The Rock Maple construction offers great tone and is light in the hands.
