Awesome flute! Great intonation and power. Once warmed up plays at A440 beautifully. Incredibly efficient headjoint, excellent intonation and fantastic keywork. This is one of those flutes we're tempted to keep for ourselves! So unique. Great for everything from trad Irish to classical.
Note from Pat:
"The simple system flute remained popular in eastern Europe after orchestral musicians had adopted the Boehm flute. At the time when this flute was made (~1880-1920) makers in Germany were producing very sophisticated flutes like this whose key work is beautifully engineered and whose tuning and bore are quite sophisticated. The tone and response across two and a half octaves is very solid and consistent and although in Irish music this is considered a small hole flute, it is surprisingly loud and solid, plus plays down to low Bb!
Not to be confused with the bottom tier of German flutes, churned out and sold in Sears catalogs at the turn of the century (featuring little undercutting of tone holes, clunky key work and poor response on low note....
The winged lip plate on this head is very efficient for sound production!
